Topeka Collegiate seeks an experienced educator to serve as the school’s academic leader. All teaching faculty report to and are evaluated by the Dean and Head of School. The Academic Dean develops and oversees the engaging, challenging, and inspiring curriculums and related programming at Topeka Collegiate. The Dean works closely with all faculty to assess and continuously improve educational programs, policies, and experiences and align them with the school’s mission. The Academic Dean works with teachers, staff, students and parents to foster a learning environment based on principles of kindness, inquiry, integrity, collaboration and inclusion in order to reach a diverse community of learners (academically, culturally, racially) and help fulfill the school’s mission to develop the whole child.
The Academic Dean is a 10.5 month position with a competitive salary based on qualifications and experience. The ideal candidate will be eligible to participate in the school’s healthcare plan and receive retirement benefits. The Academic Dean reports to the Head of School.
The Academic Dean must have exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. He or she must easily relate to students of all ages preschool-eighth grade and adults. The Dean must possess conflict resolution skills and problem-solving traits. He or she must also be proficient with different technology programs, such as Google GSuite.
As Academic Dean, you will:
Act as the academic leader of the school, responsible for its day-to-day operations: developing teachers’ schedules, scheduling of students, overseeing academic advising, monitoring the academic progress of the students, and addressing academic concerns.
Lead the process of assessing, updating and aligning PK-8 curriculum per the school’s mission, philosophy, and values, involving faculty closely in the process.
Train and support teachers in curriculum development, differentiation, assessment, integration/cross-disciplinary work, and data collection.
Promote best practices and policies in curriculum and instruction; research and direct professional development accordingly.
With the Head of School, interview, recruit, hire, and coach new faculty, helping ensure their effective transition to Topeka Collegiate.
Lead both informal coaching and formal evaluation of all classroom instructors, developing a consistent, multi-year process for professional growth.
Communicate curricular goals and pedagogy to the community (e.g. parents, Board of Trustees, community partners, etc).
Coordinate standardized assessment programming and post-test analyses, summaries, and staff and parent communications.
Support and promote a strong Independent School culture.
Collaborate with and supervise library programming to help promote reading throughout the school community.
Consult with faculty concerning matters of classroom management, teaching methods and school procedures.
Oversee the school’s class schedules and work within school information systems.
Review monthly departmental budget reports and approve purchase requests.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

A BA or BS degree from an accredited college or university is required; a master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred. Experience in an Independent School setting is preferred. Substantial, innovative teaching experience is required, preferably across multiple grade levels. Candidates with experience, education in and a passion for instruction, curriculum, and program development, as well as in teacher supervision and evaluation, will receive strong consideration. The ideal candidate will also possess a growth mindset, have outstanding communication skills, and have a good sense of humor.
