Hebron Academy is seeking a dynamic, flexible, and forward-thinking faculty member to join our College Counseling department for the 2019-2020 school year.
We are looking for a College Counselor who will:
Fully support a small but diverse cohort of graduating seniors and postgraduates throughout their college search and application processes.
Communicate regularly with their cohort's parents, advisors, and teachers.
Provide college preparatory instruction to all students beginning in their freshman year, in partnership with the Director of College Counseling. Topics of instruction include types of colleges, the college search, financial aid and merit scholarships, essay writing, standardized testing, summer programs, athletic recruiting, and more.
Educate families about all aspects of planning and managing a college and career search process, in partnership with the Director of College Counseling.
Assist in planning college counseling events, including college visits days, an on-campus college fair, essay-writing workshops, and more.
Our faculty participate fully in the life of the school. The College Counselor will therefore also teach 1 - 2 courses, serve as a student advisor, coach and/or lead non-athletic extracurricular activities, and participate in residential dormitory life.
Experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably at an independent boarding school, is required, as is familiarity with the American college and university landscape and the college application process. At least two years of experience in college counseling is preferred. The ideal applicant will also be proficient in using the Microsoft suite, Google applications, and Naviance; have strong written and oral communication skills; and have proven success working collaboratively in a a fast-paced and innovative educational environment.
