ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES --Effectively integrates professional standards of Social Science education into every day classroom instruction and curriculum design. --Prepares and implement lesson plans for such instruction. --Collaborates with faculty in all disciplines with an eye towards providing interdisciplinary opportunities. --Incorporates 21st-century skills into Debate curricula. --Works with the High School administration and Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator to refine and improve Debate program. --Participates in general duties such as study hall supervision, class coverage for absent teachers, and supervision at after school events (i.e. dances, athletic events, etc.). --Maintains current attendance and student records. --Attends all required professional development, faculty and staff meetings, parent meetings, and any special meeting(s) requested by the administration. --Continues personal and professional development conferences and other development opportunities to ensure that teaching practices remain current. --Assists with other projects, programs and planning as assigned by the High School Division Head.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS --Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in History, Social Sciences, Education or related subject matter. --2-5 Years strong background and experience in teaching speech/public speaking and various types of debate. --Experience coaching in the areas of speech and debate at a competitive level also preferred. --Preferred knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the Sion mission. --Excellent verbal and written communications skills. --Strong public speaking skills. --Ability to interact professionally with students, parents, faculty and staff. --Flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the divisions on faculty committees. --Ability to set goals and accept professional feedback. --Must demonstrate competency with school related technology. --Maintain professional credentials as required by Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) or other accrediting agencies
--Works in classroom environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
Additional Salary Information: Teaches one class (20% of scale) plus a stipend for the coaching dutues
