The Director of College Counseling position encompasses significant leadership responsibilities in two of the three major stages of the total program of our school. CRNYHS seeks to foster in our students meaningful college awareness, college access and college success. The Director of College Counseling (DCC) is actively engaged in the work of college awareness and college access. The Director reports to the Principal.
College Access: The first constituency of the Director of College Counseling is the senior class, their parents and guardians during the process of exploring, selecting, applying to and then obtaining sufficient financial support to attend college. The Director will have a caseload of approximately 30 seniors and supervise other counselors’ work with the remainder of the class.
College Awareness: The Director is responsible for promoting awareness and interest in college among students from all grades. The Director is responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of a college counseling curriculum for juniors and seniors, supervises other counselors who teach the course and will also teach a section of the College Counseling course.
The Director and his/her team of counselors will also foster awareness through workshops offered throughout the year to students and their parents.
Supervise and develop a staff of three FT counselors and several PT volunteers.
Establish and sustain strategic partnerships with colleges and universities, host college fairs and visits by college representatives.
Represent CRNYHS in professional associations of admissions officers.
Serve as a collaborative member of Student Needs Assessment Team (SNAT) together with social-emotional counseling staff, interventionists, CWSP representative, Deans and Principal to support the social-emotional growth, behavior, and learning needs of students.
