The Center for Civic Engagement Associate supports the Center for Civic Engagement in developing and implementing programs designed to build student leadership skills and a commitment to our local, national, and global communities.
Assist Director of the Center for Civic Engagement (or simply The Center) and Student Council to manage leadership opportunities including student clubs and related activities such as Club Fair and Student Leadership Training
Support the Public Purpose Program by managing how hourly totals are recorded and communicated to students, creating new forms and administrative protocols as needed, and generally assisting with preparation for service days
Facilitate 9th grade Public Purpose Program curriculum
Oversee the after school Community Tutoring Program sessions on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:30 pm
Manage communications for the Center such as updating The Center's webpage, social media channels; updating publications, forms and applications, and publicizing volunteer events to the school community
Provide students with information on internship/work opportunities, find community partners, service organizations and other groups that fit with our mission
Serve as the point person for visiting guests from academic programs, community partners, service organizations and other groups that fit with our mission.
Coordinate major campus-based drives including food and clothing drives, blood drives, and the annual drive for Senegal
Promote and help design social justice events throughout the school year including the Sam Mihara Day of Justice
Support affinity groups on campus such as FM, a support group for female students of color and SURJ, an anti-racist group for white students
Oversee student club fundraisers such as materials, scheduling, and communication with students, and coordinating with the LWHS Business Office
Ensure that all AM clubs have completed their service requirement
Participate in the Admissions process
Bachelor’s degree, or professional equivalent
Experience working with youth
Availability to work occasional weekends
Demonstrate commitment to equity and inclusion, engaging students from all walks of life
Collaborate effectively with colleagues in program design and implementation
Takes initiative and is self-directed
Strong organization skills, as well as strong written/oral communications skills
Personal qualities of integrity, optimism, flexibility and humor
