LOWER SCHOOL MUSIC TEACHER LOUISVILLE COLLEGIATE SCHOOL
Head of Lower School
In partnership with department colleagues and lower school teachers, the instructor is responsible for introducing musical literacy, integrating movement, and inspiring a love of music to grades JK-5. The strongest candidates will demonstrate the ability to inspire creativity and joy among young students.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor’s degree in music or elementary education; advanced degree preferred;
A passion for teaching music, and a demonstrated passion and understanding of the developmental needs of elementary aged students;
Knowledge of working with recorders, solfege, movement, singing; training in Orff a plus;
Experience in classroom management;
Authentic, clear, and confident communication skills, both written and oral;
Ability to integrate technology, use innovative curricula, and employ best pedagogical practices;
Ability to differentiate instruction when necessary to reach all levels of learners;
Ability to collaborate both within the department and across other disciplines;
Flexibility, optimism, creativity, and a growth mindset;
Ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues, students, and families;
Dedication to continuing professional development;
Enthusiastic involvement in the school community outside the classroom;
Understanding of independent schools a plus.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS REQUIRED:
Organize, plan and implement concerts, programs, and recital assemblies
Coach students in auditioning for KMEA and ACDA honor choirs
Serve as a member of the Fine Arts Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the department;
Support the school, its mission, and its leadership;
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
