The Head-Royce School Teaching Fellow Program is a one-year program designed to help address the national need to train new, outstanding teachers in the area of health and well-being. This fellow will lay the foundation for the understanding of health and wellness during the high school years by educating adolescents so that they can make informed and empowered choices. This position is for college graduates who have an interest in teaching, public health, human development, and social-emotional learning. Fellows should have distinctive academic credentials, excellent communication skills and a desire to work with adolescents. Classroom or teaching experience strongly preferred.
The Health Teaching Fellow will primarily teach 9th grade health two days a week (Tuesday and Friday). The Teaching Fellow will also meet with the School Counselor regularly to discuss curriculum, pedagogy, and classroom management strategies. In addition, the Teaching Fellow will partner with our Center for Civic Engagement to integrate the work of the CCE in our health and well-being curriculum and observe other 9th grade classes. Teaching Fellows are expected to be on campus full-time, attend faculty, division, and student wellness and support department meetings, and serve as an advisor in the Upper School.
Flexible, collaborative teacher; able to work with Upper School teachers and counselor as well as the student support department on health curriculum and the strategic plan
Clear communicator with students, colleagues and parents
Demonstrated knowledge of comprehensive sexual health education and social and emotional development
Strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
Experience with high school students
Additional Qualifications we hope to find, but not required:
Teaching experience and/ or previous training related to sexual health and social-emotional learning
Advanced degree(s) in education
