Long Term Substitute, Part Time, Kindergarten Lead Teacher Thursdays and Fridays, September 2019 through January 2020
The San Francisco Friends School, a Quaker school located in the refurbished Levi Strauss building in the heart of the Mission District of San Francisco, seeks an early childhood teacher to cover a long term family leave for our lead kindergarten teacher. The substitute will work alongside an experienced TA/co-lead on Thursdays and Fridays , as well as the other members of the kindergarten team. The long-term substitute will also be supported by the lead teacher, who will be on site Mondays through Wednesdays.
SFFS opened its doors in the fall of 2002; in September of 2017, at full enrollment, the school will include over 430 children in grades K–8. The school seeks a teacher who resonates with the Friends School mission, which provides an exemplary education in a community dedicated to peaceful problem-solving, service to others, simplicity, social justice, respect for the individual, and quiet reflection. Our Quaker ideals compel us to create a diverse and inclusive community; we seek a person who will thrive and contribute to such a community, both within and beyond the walls of the school.
We have two sections of each grade in the lower school, K-4. In kindergarten through second grades, each section has one full time assistant; in third and fourth grade, the assistant is shared between each section. Lower school students also experience classes with specialists in Music, Art, Drama, Dance, PE, Spanish, and Library. We welcome teachers who are eager to collaborate with one another and weave the disciplines together when most effective. Responsibilities include close teamwork for curriculum development, committee involvement, attendance at special events, creation of student portfolios, authentic assessments, including report writing skills, and highly effective, clear parent communications. The school has vibrant and creative programs in service learning, technology, social justice, and social emotional learning, as well as the core academic subjects, mindfully choosing projects that meet our goals for student learning. We welcome a substitute who would like to bring their collaborative efforts, their expertise and interests into the community during their time with us, and experience deep engagement in the community.
