The Buckley School, a leading K – 12 independent school in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County has an opening for a 3/5 or 4/5 part-time Physical Education Teacher and Upper School Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach. (The school will also consider splitting these roles between two or more individuals.) This teacher will be responsible for all aspects of teaching our curriculum and is responsible for developing and maintaining curriculum maps of the courses they teach. In addition to teaching physical education classes, this individual must have both taught and coached basketball in previous employment since this position will involve teaching and coaching basketball in grades 5-8 as well as coaching the boys upper school varsity team. This individual must also have teaching and coaching experience in other sports including flag football and volleyball. Additionally, this individual may be responsible for an advisory of 6-8 students and is expected to be a collaborative and engaged community member at Buckley, enthusiastically participating in the Physical Education department and among the greater faculty and staff.
Responsibilities as an upper school varsity head coach include organizing and running practices, directing the activities of assistant coaches, coaching at games, scouting and overseeing individual and team conditioning workouts. Additional tasks may include compiling statistics and administering basic first aid.
The Head Coach role is compensated separately with a stipend of $5,960 - $7,530 depending on coaching experience.
Bachelors degree (Masters preferred)
5+ years of basketball coaching experience at the junior high/high school or collegiate level.
5+ years of teaching/coaching experience.
Demonstrated competency in diversity, multiculturalism, inclusion, equity and social justice
Enthusiastic for the sport
Outgoing and friendly
In addition to basketball, the preferred candidates will have coaching experience in flag football and volleyball.
