Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences, an accredited coeducational independent day school for 130 students (grades EC-8), is currently seeking a dynamic educator to join its faculty as a 1st Grade Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a full time 10-month position starting August 26th, 2019. Our mission is to provide a joyful and supportive learning environment for the development of excellence in each of us. As a School of Arts & Sciences, we seek to provide meaningful cross-curricular activities across disciplines for our students. Duties and Responsibilities:
To provide a developmentally appropriate 1st grade curriculum in Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science
To understand the cognitive, social and emotional developmental needs of children
To maximize learning through the integration of disciplines
To create a positive classroom/school atmosphere that fosters respect, responsibility, and safety, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment materials and the facility.
Participate in curriculum development, faculty meetings, and professional growth endeavors
To integrate technology effectively into a 21st Century classroom
We expect all faculty members to be fully engaged in the life and mission of the school, in and out of the classroom. The ability to lead or take part in enrichment classes, school committees, after school activities, athletic teams, and/or summer camp courses is desired.
Education and Experience:
At a minimum, the candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Teaching experience (particularly in an independent school) is preferred.

Appreciation of the developmental and age characteristics of the students
Eagerness to communicate and develop positive bonds with parents
A passion for teaching young children and helping them to achieve their best
