Poly Prep Country Day School announces a search for Middle and Upper School Computer Science Teacher, grades 8-12
Poly Prep strives to provide a diverse, just and equitable education for our students. We seek a Computer Science Teacher with expertise in computer programming, ethics in technology, and making who is committed to promoting these values and whose competence, integrity and collegiality will enrich our school and Technology department.
Poly Prep’s Technology Department has continued to expand over the past few years, and is looking to add a versatile, creative and supportive teacher to its team. A strong desire to promote STEAM programs as well as help students discover and develop interests in technology is imperative. This candidate should be just as interested in learning and growing in the field of technology as their students. As part of this growth, we will be offering a new course next year that combines technology instruction with health and wellness. This course will focus on healthy use of technology, as it relates to the physical and emotional wellbeing of the user, effective use of technology and resources, as well as the ethical issues surrounding privacy, the use of big data, and the future of innovation.
Teaching responsibilities include:
Three sections per semester of a new Technology and Ethics course
One section per semester of Computer Design - a maker focused course
Additional classes which may include Game Design, AP Computer Science, Advanced CS
Working with students on personal and/or course-based projects in Poly’s Makerspace
Communicating with students and families regarding their progress throughout the school year, including the ability to provide suggestions for those interested in pursuing additional pathways for computer science and technology education
Along with teaching our Middle and Upper School students, this position carries the following responsibilities
Being an advisor for a group of students (7-10)
Helping Upper School faculty with technology integration in their curriculum
Assisting students in shared computer and making spaces
Advising students participating in technology-related Independent Studies
Advising a club or activity
Collaborating with department to help continue to build curriculum
Attending community events throughout the school year
Attending and contributing to meetings during and after the school day, including but not limited to: department, division, committee and grade-level meetings
Providing technical support for students and faculty when possible
