Hoosac School seeks a motivated, student-centered teacher to take on the role of teaching English to students for whom English is not his or her first language. Suitable candidates will have the following abilities:
Plan, organize and provide instruction in English that prepare our students to successfully pass the TOEFL exam, as well as to create productive members of a collegiate community.
Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the school’s instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed personal learning goal.
Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies.
Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area.
Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition. ( Such as the Lexia program we utilize here at Hoosac.)
Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress, to our school's satisfaction.
Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.
Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students.
Include cultural responsiveness within your daily lesson plans.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students.
Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as needed.
Candidates should also understand that the boarding school environment is a very busy one and that the daily requirements are extensive. Teachable moments abound and faculty are expected to take advantage of those opportunities to help our students achieve success. Flexibility, a positive outlook and a willingness to help out wherever needed will be key assets.

About Hoosac School
Hoosac School is a co-educational, traditional, boarding school enrolling students in grades 8-12 and a Post-graduate year. Hoosac School is located in the rolling hills of upstate New York and is twenty minutes from Williamstown, MA and ten minutes from Bennington, VT. Founded in 1889, Hoosac has strong tradition of preparing its students for some of the best colleges and universities in the United States.
