This full-time position involves the integration of language arts and social studies, including the ability to curate and analyze age-appropriate world literature. The primary language arts components include effective teaching of the writing process, including expository, persuasive, creative, and narrative forms. The social studies component focuses on global studies including physical and cultural geography.
The Humanities department is comprised of four Lead Teachers, each of whom work with a dedicated Associate Teacher to aid in differentiation of the curriculum. Classes are limited to approximately 16-18 students. Other responsibilities include participation in weekly department and faculty meetings, leading an Advisory group focusing on social-emotional learning, teaching or supervising student-led elective classes, and attendance at some evening and overnight activities.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate previous experience:
Inspiring bright students with a creative and innovative curriculum
Understanding of and appreciation for the developmental needs of adolescents
Experience in the use of technology for instruction
Creativity, differentiation, and acceleration with a defined yet flexible curriculum
Foster critical thinking, intellectual risk taking, and strong academic skills
Strong candidates will have:
Valid teaching certificate from Washington or another state
Experience working with gifted students
Experience with an Advisory program
