The Bank Street School for Children is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable learning specialist. The learning specialist works collaboratively with a range of adults inside and outside of the school community to support students. The learning specialist provides intervention, remediation, and enrichment to students, and supports teachers in their ability to deliver effective and differentiated classroom instruction.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have:
• Bachelor's degree; Master’s degree in Special Education or related field is preferable • Understanding of adolescent development/experience working with middle school • 3 years experience working with children with special needs, preferably in a school setting • Knowledge and experience in integrated educational settings • Strong communication and organizational skills
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Collaborate with teachers, families, and outside staff to support and adapt curriculum to meet the needs of all learners as well as to interpret and summarize diagnostic evaluations. • Communicate with families regarding progress monitoring, as well as implementation of home-based intervention. • Work directly with students; individually, in small groups and in whole class settings. • Serve as the testing coordinator of the school, overseeing and facilitating yearly standardized testing (CTP-5). • Conduct common assessments to measure growth and develop student and classroom instructional goals. • Increase families’ knowledge of children and help to organize any necessary interventions. • Support the High School process through consultation with families and the admin team as well as through calls to relevant staff in receiving high schools. • Participate in and present at a variety of relevant meetings. • Attend regular division, department, student support and supervisory meetings. • Commit to being a learner and participant in addressing issues of social justice, diversity, equity, and anti-bias education in our curriculum and in our community.
