Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences is a K-12 college preparatory school that believes that each student will develop a personal commitment to learning, respect for independent thinking and expanding curiosity about the world and its people. The school believes that the arts are an essential part of the curriculum. Students are encouraged to express themselves creatively; therefore, the arts are significant to student life.
The Chair of the K-12 Classical Strings Program is responsible for coordinating and directing the classical strings program. The goal of this program is for students to begin the study of classical strings in elementary school with the hopes of joining the EMMI program or continue to participate in the strings program through upper school. The chair will also serve as the Director of the EMMI program.
The EMMI program is a highly competitive and prestigious program which enrolls a prescribed number of string musicians who undertake a stringent audition process. Students in EMMI spend a portion of the day studying music history and theory and in practice and study. In addition, EMMI students take a full and academically challenging course of study and participate in school activities. Students come from the greater Los Angeles community, as well as other national and international areas. The school provides housing for students who cannot commute to campus.
The ideal candidate would have a Masters degree or higher in Music Performance in Violin, Viola or Cello.
The candidate should have knowledge of and/or experience in:
Administration and leadership of specialized program of music instruction
Overseeing an operating budget
Recruiting, training and evaluating music faculty
Recruiting and admissions of music students
Hiring music teachers and coaches
Working collaboratively with faculty, other department chairs, school administrators, students and parents
Teaching and working with varied age groups of students
Teaching strings at the elementary and middle school levels
Conducting string ensembles and orchestras
Strong organizational skills
