The Middle School Edison Learning Specialist at Lake Highland Preparatory School will be responsible for overseeing all duties related to students enrolled in the exceptional student education program, guaranteeing compliance with ADA regulations. Reviews and interpret psychological and educational testing of students being considered for the Edison Program.
Develops and communicates a plan to address student needs in the classroom for all students that are enrolled and noted as students with specific learning accommodations.
Coordinates and chairs eligibility meetings to staff students into the Edison Program and other parent conferences as needed. At that time the team develops a checklist to be distributed to parents and teachers, as well as an accommodation plan to be used by the Edison Resource Teacher for direct instruction/remediation.
Serves as a liaison between teachers, parents, and students to educate all stakeholders in the individualized learning needs of each student enrolled in the Edison program.
Promotes self-advocacy with each student enrolled in the Edison program, while also providing quarterly parental updates on academic progress for each student.
Meets annually with each Edison parent, to update checklist, accommodation plan, and contract for Edison services.
Maintains a caseload of all students in Grades 7 & 8 who are enrolled in the Middle School Edison Program.
Monitors classroom performance of all students enrolled in the Edison program.
Attends Advisory Resource Council (LHPS Parent Group) meetings every other month.
Observes students in classroom (at parent request) to assess possible need for testing into the Edison Program.
Facilitates accommodations to students enrolled in the Edison program in order to provide optimal administration of services for all students enrolled in the Edison program.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Middle School Director.
Excellent communication and customer service skills with demonstrated ability to work well with students, parents and faculty is critical.
Bachelor’s degree in field of exceptional education required. Master’s preferred.
Minimum of five years’ experience is required and/or Teacher Certification in subject area.
Working knowledge of computer system functions, including database, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel or similar programs.
