SETTING AND LOCATION
South of San Francisco, Synapse School resides in the city of Menlo Park. Because of Synapse's unique and exciting location, our school is influenced by the dynamic cultural, intellectual and ethnic diversity that permeates the region. Stanford University is minutes away, and provides an unparalleled intellectual community in neighboring Palo Alto. Synapse is a close neighbor to several high-tech and high profile companies such as Facebook, Google, Apple, Sun Microsystems and Oracle. We are conveniently located between freeways 101 and 280 and along Caltrain, a commuter railway system that services thousands of people each day from San Jose to San Francisco.

Based on the Six Seconds model of emotional intelligence, students, teachers, and parents alike develop a practice to be more aware, more intentional, and more purposeful in life. SEL is a force at Synapse, fueling a learning community where people embrace inquiry, value diversity, seek connection, and pursue their passions.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING
Teach constructivist, mixed-aged SEL classes
Work collaboratively with the SEL team to refine and iterate SEL scope and sequence, and incorporate the latest research into our work, and collaborate on the design of school climate supports
Support the school-wide integration of SEL
Provide coaching in support of student growth. Review student data to inform and guide work and adjust coaching practices and priorities as needed
Participate in Student Success Team (SST) meetings and parent conferences, and update student documentation as required
Write lesson plans and narrative evaluations
Support and provide feedback around behavior management, classroom organization and SEL needs
Collaborate with teachers and specialists to develop and document integrated theme-based curriculum
Attend student meetings, weekly faculty meetings, Six Seconds trainings, and other meetings as needed, and chaperone monthly field trips
AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of two years of teaching experience, preferably in independent schools.
A passion for Synapse’s mission of educating change makers
A strong interest in engaging and working with middle school aged students
Inspired to learn, practice, and grow one’s own emotional intelligence
Enjoys collaboration and team-oriented work in a quickly changing environment
A willingness to take on new challenges
A passion for sharing social emotional best practices
Excellent communication skills
