What We're Looking For
In this teaching position, you use your passion for your subject to inspire and teach higher-level content than what is typical for young students. In the classrooms, you work collaboratively with elementary teachers who are responsible for managing the the social-emotional and academic development, periods of transition, and parental communications for a cohort of students.
BASIS Curriculum Primary School Teachers are knowledgeable, passionate and believe in developing independence, responsibility and autonomy in students at a young age. Our 1-4 classrooms are co-taught with not one, but two elementary teachers co-creating with students at all times. Our Learning Expert Teachers (LETs) cultivate a joyful learning culture where hard work is celebrated and where intellectual pursuits result in extraordinary student outcomes. Our Subject Expert Teachers (SETs) focus more intensely on student academic growth in their particular area of expertise. These two types of elementary teachers collaborate within our symbiotic classroom to find the best ways to deliver a top-tier education, ensure student engagement, and create an environment where students will understand and retain what they learn. Our elementary teachers love teaching and our students love learning. BASIS Curriculum teachers celebrate the art of elementary education and, guided by the belief that any child can excel, our elementary teachers' deep pedagogical expertise ensures that each student receives a world-class education.
Primary engineering teachers stimulate and encourage students' natural curiosity while teaching foundational engineering and design concepts. Teachers have the freedom to present and teach the concepts in their own way and are encouraged to bring a creative and fresh approach to the classroom. Students in Primary learn about simple and complex machines, design constraints, design modification, and ultimately, how engineering helps to solve problems. A teacher's passion can spark a lifetime of interest and learning, and we encourage our teachers to allow their enthusiasm for their subject to inspire their students.

About BASIS Independent Schools
BASIS began as a visionary venture in 1998 when Dr. Michael and Olga Block, world-class economics academics, found that students in their classrooms who were educated outside of the United States were not only more prepared for the challenges faced in college than their American counterparts, but were simply "better" at being students. Digging further, they found that low expectations among American students led to a lack of curricular substance in U.S. classrooms. Creating a brand new school in Tucson, Arizona, they discovered that American students thrived when challenged, rising to and surpassing the best students in the world. Thus the BASIS.ed revolution was born! They developed a formula for success, refined regularly since then, that proves every child can become a great student when presented a rigorous course of study taught by Subject Expert Teachers and supported by a culture of excellence. What began as a single campus in Tucson has grown to become a unique, high-achieving, and unprecedented network of schools - five independent schools in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Silicon Valley, Fremont, and McLean, an international school in Shenzhen, China, and 26 charter schools across t...he United States.Today, BASIS students have propelled their schools to become the top ranked in the nation and acclaimed world-wide, as noted in Amanda Ripley's book "The Smartest Kids in the World (and How They Got That Way). The BASIS.ed curriculum and program of study are based on 15 years refinement of a rigorous, challenging, supportive academic experience, ranked among the very best in the world.
