The Magellan International School (Colegio Internacional Magallanes), in Austin, Texas, has an opening for a Bilingual Upper Elementary and Middle School Art Teacher. This position will work in our Primary and Middle Schools (2nd through 8th Grades). The Art Teacher is responsible for teaching art education to students in Spanish, and assists the staff of the school in the usage of art in regular instruction. This teacher helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and usage of art through comprehensive art instruction that includes Art Technique and Art History.
Teaches basic to advanced art techniques and encourages students to develop individual art skills to the greatest extent possible.
Educates students about cultural and historical influences on art.
Plans and executes a balanced art program and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, and projects can be accomplished within the allotted time.
Supervises and assists students, grades artwork, encourages creativity, and teaches techniques in a variety of mediums.
Informs students on proper care and use of tools and equipment. Organizes storage areas and controls the use of materials, equipment, and tools to promote conservation and discourage loss.
Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work in the classroom and around the school.
Evaluates and assesses each student’s artistic growth.
Develops curriculum in collaboration with programme coordinators and teachers.
Selects appropriate books and instructional aids to enhance learning and requests art supplies as necessary.

Ensures that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, problem solving and creativity.
Addresses the range of skills and developmental needs found in the classroom.
Encourages students to define individual goals.
Maintains a safe and creative environment for their students.
Creates a full Spanish immersion environment.
Supports teachers and co-workers.
Attends all Primary and Middle School staff and faculty meetings.
Meets with Primary and Middle Years Programme Coordinators to review curriculum plans and activities and evaluate program's effectiveness.
Maintains records on each child's progress and development.
Keeps up-to-date records of attendance, curriculum, assessment tasks in Managebac.
Carries out supervision at break times, lunch times, and other times as required.
Prepares documentation for IB external assessment.
Communicates professionally and effectively to parents about student progress.
Conducts individual parent conferences at the end of each term.
Establishes a positive relationship with student families.
Prepares parent presentations as needed.
Attends parent meetings when required.
Communicates and collaborates with parents of high needs students.
Participates in Fundraising and Marketing efforts to support the growth of our non-profit, independent school.
Curates local community offerings and communicates opportunities to school community.
Promotes the Magellan International School Mission.
Creates and maintains connections with relevant community resources.

This job operates in a classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This role requires the ability to interact with multiple children at a time, ability to lift children and heavy objects on a routine bases (up to 40 lbs) and have the ability to bend and sit on the floor throughout the day.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
“Core” work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m - precise length and hours of day may vary. Availability during occasional nights and weekend events.
Some out-of-area travel (such as student field trips) may be expected, but is not common.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
If hired, you will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification form, I-9. You will be required to present acceptable and original documents to prove your identity and authorization to work in the United States. Documents need to be presented no later than the third day of employment. Failure to do so will result in loss of employment at the school.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four year college or university with a degree in Education, Art, or related field of study
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in both Spanish and English
Teaching Certificate or other teaching accreditation qualification
Minimum of 3 years teaching experience
Demonstrated experience teaching art and solid working knowledge of the concepts, activities and techniques related to teaching art at the primary and middle school levels
Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Experience creating a stimulating classroom environment
Master’s in Art Education
Experience with or training in the IB PYP or MYP Programmes
