The Development Associate is an essential part of Marin Horizon School’s Development team. The Development Associate works with the Director of Development in implementing all aspects of fundraising for Marin Horizon as well as supporting Horizon Community School fundraising volunteers.
In addition, the Development Associate will be responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of all Development events (including Parent Association events, the annual school auction, Trustee Visiting Day, Grandparents’ Day and alumni events) and the Stewards program. He or she is also responsible for Alumni relations, including fostering, cultivating and strengthening relationships with alumni and their families.
Support the Director of Development
Collaborate with the Director of Development to develop and implement key strategies and messages, identify and cultivate new donors
With the Development Committee, provide support for the Horizon Fund, including determining strategies such as messaging, segmenting, gift request amounts, etc.
Coordinate fundraising mailings
Research new prospects and manage a portfolio of prospects, as appropriate
With the Director of Development, identify, solicit and train Marin Horizon Steward families
Manage Steward program, including outreach, meetings, communications and calendar
Horizon Community School
Support Horizon Community School Steering Committee Fundraising Vice Chair: manage and track volunteer solicitation team, organize events and fundraisers, support content production, design for solicitation materials, publications and mailings.
Manage grant reporting process for family and larger foundations
With Director of Development and PA President, manage calendar of development events, identify and recruit event volunteer leaders, develop and manage budgets, and report on progress
Meet fundraising goals for the annual auction, and other fundraising events, set in conjunction with Development and Parent Association
Act as point person for all development events, manage vendors used for event execution, and clearly define staff and volunteer roles and duties
Track guest lists, RSVPs, event collateral, registration materials, etc.; update Raiser’s Edge with invitation and attendee information
Complete all auction statement and gift processing with PA Treasurer and Marin Horizon Business Office
Parent Association/Volunteer Management
Guide and support the Parent Association in: identifying and recruiting members, planning activities, establishing budget guidelines and goals
Maintain gift and volunteer acknowledgement system for school events and parent volunteers
Responsible for developing programs, activities, and communications that: deepen the School’s relationship with alumni, engage alumni in the life of Marin Horizon, increase alumni contributions to the school, and build upon the connections of alumni with one another.
Engage alumni through social networking, write alumni e-newsletter, coordinate alumni content for the annual report and other publications including the school’s website
Develop and maintain relationships with the wider development and education communities
Availability to represent development at evening or weekend events throughout the school year
Participate in professional development activities
Traffic and playground duties as assigned by Head of School
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The Development Associate will combine strong development experience with a genuine dedication to our school and its mission. He or she should have a high capacity for multi-tasking complex projects, working quickly and carefully, excellent communication and organizational skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to see a project through from start to finish.
In addition, the Development Manager will possess:
3+ years fundraising experience, including managing events, with demonstrated experience working directly with donors
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with all the school’s constituents while maintaining strict confidentiality
A firm belief in Marin Horizon’s values and the capacity to articulate the case for support
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of presentation programs a plus (PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.)
Passion about working with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds
Knowledge of fundraising data software and database management software (Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred)
Experience working with and motivating volunteers and staff members
Familiarity with the local community and the capacity to understand the school’s culture
