Upland seeks an experienced, dynamic 3rdGrade homeroom teacher. This is a full-time position for the 2019-2020 school year.
Entrusted with the education and care of children, Faculty at Upland promotes the best interests of the child within the context of the School’s philosophy. Those who teach are responsible for the quality of their teaching, promoting their own growth, and modeling the values in and out of the classroom that the School espouses. The following is an outline of the major responsibilities:
Collaborate with colleagues and the School’s leadership in the design and implementation of curriculum and other programs within the School’s philosophy.
Possess a thorough knowledge of their subjects in their teaching assignment(s); stay abreast of developments in their field through workshops, courses, graduate work, and reading of best practices for their students’ age, grade, subject area, contemporary research findings, and innovative ways of integrating technology into the teaching and learning process.
Within a relationship in which each child feels understood, nurtured and challenged, employ a variety of pedagogical styles suitable to the age and needs of students as unique learners and the subject matter.
Possess a positive presence in the School, attending to and responding to others during the school day as needed, and attending students’ extracurricular events (plays and sports), as well as Parents’ Nights, conference days, graduation, class day, faculty meetings, committee meetings, etc.
Communicate effectively, articulately and professionally in writing via email, progress reports, or by phone, Skype, and conference as needed—often beyond the required intervals, as well as in a timely fashion.
Perform other duties as assigned by division heads and the Head of School, and adhere to policies and procedures as stated in the faculty handbook.
Applicants should have three to five years teaching experience in elementary grades. A Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree preferred.
