The summer camp program at BB&N is in its 70th year and is one of the largest and oldest programs in the area. Camp enrollment has grown over the years to approximately 450 children per week with over 1000 campers per summer. Offering a multitude of programs from Classic Camp, Specialty Camps, to Sports Camps, Summer @ BB&N offers a wide variety of programming to capture the interest of a wide variety of children/families.
The after school program offers BB&N families a high-quality, enriching and fun school-year program that students can enjoy and parents can rely on. After school programs are located at our Lower School Campus and support over 200 students each semester.
This full-time, 12-month position will manage all aspects of a $1.4 million summer and after school program. This position is responsible for setting a strategy for BB&N’s summer and after school programs and for the development, implementation, and administration of the program while also creating a plan for execution on the components of that strategy. The summer camp employs nearly 120 staff each season and the after school program employs six full time staff and approximately 15 part-time counselors each semester.
The Director of Extended Year Programs reports to the Director of Business Operations (who oversees the Business Office, Dining Service and Extended Year Programs) and serves as a member of the Senior Operations Team, led by the Chief Operating and Financial Officer. The Director of Extended Year Programs is responsible for creating a team to support faculty, staff, and program participants, while working across functions to serve the needs of the programs she or he is responsible for.
A strong candidate will be seen as a program leader in the school and will have the ability to engage with faculty, administrators, and staff effectively and to earn the respect of all the major constituents of the school community. The Director of Extended Year Programs will be able to build a strong summer and after school set of programs and set a strategy for how these programs may evolve in the next 3-5 years. The candidate will have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and an ability to articulate the program strategy to the many constituents of BB&N’s community.
Summary of essential job functions
Set a strategic direction and recommend, develop, and oversee the implementation of program offerings to support this strategy.
Create and manage all summer and after school program materials on the dedicated website and in the school’s records.
Manage revenue and expense budgets including fee schedules and expenditure controls. Process all payroll and expense requests for the programs.
Serve as primary contact and point person for any problems that may arise when the programs are in session and oversee day-to-day operations.
Recruit, hire and train all summer and after school staff.
Work with dining services, the facilities team, IT staff, campus leaders and others in the school to ensure all components of the summer, after school and other extended year programs are supported in these areas. Create collaborative and productive relationships with the individuals in these areas.
Summer camp specific:
Evaluate and adjust existing summer camp programs based on current market conditions, customer demand and other local programs.
Track and maintain all camp applications, payments, medical forms, etc., for each individual camper.
Ensure that the summer camp and programs meet all regulatory and other requirements of applicable law.
Ensure compliance with all necessary ADA and other relevant rules and regulations.
Work with the Director of Communications and other school leaders to develop a marketing/advertising plan for recruiting campers and to create promotional information and brochures.
Work with team to coordinate camp schedules, determine logistical support needs, and ensure appropriate balance of athletic, academic and fine arts content.
After school program specific:
Continue to build a program that balances families’ needs for after school care with the enrichment opportunities families desire.
Oversee the planning, coordination and day to day operations of the after school program.
Coordinate bus transportation and care for Lower School bus riders for the time from the end of school until the time the buses depart from the Lower School.
Other auxiliary program responsibilities:
Work with the business office and athletic department to oversee facilities rentals throughout the year.
Manage the middle school lunch program.
Be a key member of the operations team and take on special projects and work with the operations team to leverage the existing assets of the school to best serve students and families.
Work with the school’s leadership to identify opportunities to build on programs offered to faculty, staff and families.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word Documents
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years experience, preferably in an educational setting
