The Bank Street School for Children is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and team-oriented Humanities teacher. 5th Grade Humanities covers Language Art (literature and writing) and Social Studies (China).
Bachelor's degree; Master’s degree is preferable Knowledge of child development, progressive education, and constructivist teaching At least three years teaching experience Ability to work collaboratively and an interest in an interdisciplinary approach to education Excellent writing skills / experience teaching essay writing, and comfort with hands-on editing of student work
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Teaching a Humanities curriculum (social studies and literature/language arts) to 10-11 year-olds that is responsive to children’s developmental capacities and needs Along with the math-science teacher, serving as a homeroom teacher for each student, overseeing their social- emotional, cognitive, and physical development Communicating and collaborating regularly with families and others who support learning and growth Facilitating a Community Time curriculum –advisory-style programming on community, digital citizenship, relationships, peer pressure, wellness, and effective communication Organizing and maintaining a functional classroom that reflects curricular work Differentiating instruction to support group and individual learning Providing extra help to students as necessary during activities period and before school Sharing progress and concerns with families through conferences and a written report in the fall Attending regular division, department, and supervisory meetings Being committed to addressing issues of social justice, diversity, equity, and anti-bias education in our curriculum and in our community; teachers must be willing learners and participants in supporting this work Bank Street College of Education is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, national origin, ethnic origin, citizenship status, disability, race, religion, creed, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, marital status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law in its employment policies and other college administered programs.
