Our Mission: At The Windward School, we are committed to helping students with language-based learning disabilities achieve their full potential in preparation for a successful return to a mainstream educational environment.
The Windward School is a coeducational, independent day school dedicated to providing a proven, research-based instructional program for children with language-based learning disabilities. The multisensory curriculum is designed for students of average to superior intelligence who can benefit from the unique educational experience provided. Located in White Plains, NY, and Manhattan, NY, The Windward School educates more than 900 students on three campuses.
The Development Associate reports directly to the Associate Director of Development and will be an integral part of The Windward School’s team of development professionals. S/he will serve as a liaison to the Windward Parents Association (WPA), support donor cultivation and stewardship activities, and help plan and execute a range of special events. Some evening and weekend work is required. The successful candidate will be organized, energetic, strategic, collaborative, and prepared to work with a team of development professionals on multiple campuses.
The Development Associate will:
Enter all gifts made online into Raiser’s Edge in a timely fashion
Assist with the creation of development materials for solicitation, magazines and social media
Oversee preparation of invitations, programs, nametags and other materials for events
Oversee logistics of special events including – reserving space, coordinating with the Technology Department, food service and maintenance for all event needs before, during and after each event
Oversee on-site set-up and day-of-event coordination
Partner with the Communications Department to develop strong and consistent marketing and communications strategies for events
Assist the Communications Department by taking photographs of events and writing short summaries of each event.
Maintain lists of event attendees and send to senior administrators before events
Ensure that administrators are properly prepared by providing detailed bio of registrants and a “run of show” for each event
Manage budgets for events, submit purchase orders and reconcile with the Business Office
Ensure proper post-event cleanup, communications, payment and documentation
Review and revise event calendar annually to ensure events are achieving objectives, increasing involvement and contributing to the overall goals of the development program
Plan, oversee, execute and assure attendance at all WPA and fundraising cultivation events in New York City
Work with WPA to provide them with class lists and help create volunteer sign-up forms
The ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics:
Minimum of two years of work experience, preferably working in an office setting, in development, public relations or marketing
Ability to independently prioritize multiple projects and tasks
Strong project management skills and ability to execute independently
Superb organization and administrative skills, including working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as The Raiser’s Edge and 501Auctions
Interest in building relationships with volunteers and willingness to engage them on the phone and in person
Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment
