Blue School seeks an experienced, collaborative 1st grade teacher who brings intelligence, creativity and knowledge of the teaching of literacy and mathematics to the classroom. Blue school is committed to rich inquiry and project-based learning. We are looking for a teacher with a minimum of 3 years of experience as a 1st grade teacher. The candidate should have an advanced degree and extensive experience in creating integrated studies based on children’s interests and questions. The 1st grade teacher should have a solid understanding of all the components of balanced literacy and have the ability to teach a range of learners. Blue School, with the support of a math specialist, uses Math In the City supplemented by TERC Investigations. The individual must be comfortable communicating with parents within a vital, growing learning community.
Create an inquiry-based classroom environment where children’s ideas are central and content knowledge and skills are deepened through compelling questions and projects
Plan for developmentally appropriate literacy and math studies
Develop long-term projects based on established curriculum
Collaborate with all lead and associate 1st grade teachers in planning curriculum and projects
Assess children’s growth and progress frequently
Communicate with families regularly and proactively
Ability to document children’s thinking with written responses and photos
