The Meadowbrook School of Weston, a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade school located seven miles west of Boston, seeks a middle school English educator to join our faculty starting in August 2019. This position is a parental leave replacement position, the position will begin on October 1st and go through February 13th.
We seek candidates with teaching experience to teach three courses for grades 6, 7 and 8. The texts we study as a part of the middle school English curriculum include: Golding's Lord of the Flies, Wiesel's Night, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, and Twelfth Night, Knowles' A Separate Peace, Cisneros’s The House on Mango Street, and two poetry units. The skills we seek to cultivate in students include: analytical writing, active reading, Harkness-style discussion, and creative writing in a range of genres. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; a master's degree is preferred. Familiarity with classroom uses of technology is a plus. Experience writing recommendations for secondary school is preferred but not required. The English department is dynamic and collegial, working collaboratively, devoted to the study of literature and writing.
