Commonwealth School seeks a full-time, year-round Assistant Director of Admissions to begin in August 2019.
Founded in 1958 in Boston’s Back Bay, Commonwealth offers its 140 students in grades 9-12 an education that sets rigorous academic standards, makes the arts a part of everyday life, and, through various programs with the surrounding city, promotes social responsibility. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, this individual will help manage the admissions process, supporting families from the inquiry stage to matriculation. This position combines administrative tasks with opportunities for personal connection with students, parents, and colleagues.
Communicating with prospective families over the phone and through email
Interviewing applicants and parents
Planning and attending events
Training student admission ambassadors and overseeing the visit program
Representing Commonwealth at admission fairs
Assisting with scheduling
Evaluating applications as a member of the admissions committee
Managing all data systems, including tracking and entering applicant data
Monitoring and updating the website
Contributing to marketing and outreach efforts
A college degree and at least one year of full-time work experience (preferably in admissions)
Familiarity with independent schools and/or experience working with adolescents
A sincere interest in immersing oneself in all aspects of the admissions process
A desire to engage with a tight-knit community and work as part of a team
A warm personality and eagerness to interact with a range of constituencies
Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail
The ability to multitask, adapt, and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
An inclination to take initiative and solve problems creatively
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Availability to work some nights and weekends
