Develop, document, and implement safety and security programs campus-wide. Monitor the performance and effectiveness of any policies or procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
Work with the leadership team to create short and long-term strategies to address school safety and security concerns. Provide periodic reports on progress to leadership and the Board of Trustees.
Participate on the Security Task Force that provides oversight for school and campus-wide safety and security.
Work with IT and Facilities & Maintenance departments to develop and implement building and ground security protocols including access control procedures, parking and traffic enforcement. Establish internal controls and conduct periodic inspections.
Responsible for administration and implementation of the school’s crisis management plan. Conduct training on policies and procedures to employees and students regarding lockdown, emergency management, general safety, and building security. Supervise and maintain records of fire and other emergency drills.
Ensure compliance with local, state and federal mandates as it relates to school safety programs and reporting.
Collaborate with local and state law enforcement and safety agencies to develop best practices and standardized responses to critical incidents.
Proactively engage the school community in safety related events and activities to increase awareness and education on keeping a safe school environment. Conduct parent education meetings.
Develop and implement security plans for special events when appropriate.
Work with appropriate departments to develop budgets for operational and security needs.
Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Knowledge of law enforcement policies and procedures, crime prevention, public safety training, and incident investigation.
Effectively lead and train others in safety and security procedures, and crisis management.
Possess strong public speaking and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills, particularly in critical and crisis situations.
Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner.
Effective listener who can build strong rapport with employees, students, and parents.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, or other related field is required. Master’s degree in related field is desired.
Experience: Must possess at least eight years of law enforcement, emergency management, and campus security management experience. Demonstrated progressive leadership experience, preferably in an educational organization. A valid NC driver’s license and evidence of insurability is required. Individual must be HR218 eligible and possess a firearms certification.
Equivalency: Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience may be considered in place of the above requirements.
