The Kew-Forest School, an independent, co-educational, Preschool through Grade 12, day-school in Forest Hills, New York, seeks an Accountant to support the day-to-day general accounting functions of our Business Office. We are looking for a detail-oriented professional with excellent organizational and analytical skills. This is a full-time position reporting to the Business Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Tuition Management / Accounts Receivable
Manage collection of enrollment contracts for returning students
Track financial documents for each student
Review data and generate billing statements
Record monthly charges, credits and payments in QuickBooks accounting software
Process bank deposits
Maintain an arrears list and provide timely reports to the Business Manager
Correspond with parents regarding outstanding balances
Provide customer service and respond to billing inquiries
Review payment requests and purchase orders for appropriate coding, documentation and approval
Enter invoices and bills in QuickBooks and prepare them for payment
Enter credit card expenses and obtain receipts and backup documentation
Obtain W-9’s from vendors and maintain vendor files
Prepare 1099 forms
Maintain appropriate procedures and internal controls for financial systems
Maintain General Ledger
Maintain fixed assets and depreciation schedule
Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable, Development and Business Office records, payroll and bank accounts
Prepare journal entries as part of the monthly close process
Produce budget reports and perform other analysis as needed
Support the annual audit and generate required schedules
Required Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
At least 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or independent school
Proficiency with QuickBooks accounting software strongly preferred
Proficiency with MS Office products
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Persistence in problem-solving /reconciling
Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills

The Kew-Forest School was founded in its current location in 1918 by Louis D. Marriott and Guy Hinman Catlin.
