Congressional School seeks a part-time Associate Third Grade Teacher to join our Lower School for the 2019-2020 school year. The Associate Teacher will partner with the Lead Third Grade Teacher to plan and implement a challenging academic curriculum that encourages each student to reach his or her full potential. The Associate Teacher will also work to create a warm, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment in which each child is known and valued. The Associate Teacher is knowledgeable about current research relevant to the learning needs of eight- and nine-year-old students. The Associate Teacher is part of the Lower School team and reports to the Director of Middle and Lower School.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with planning and implementation of age appropriate curriculum that aligns with Congressional School’s mission, vision and values
Employs a variety of teaching methods to ensure optimal learning for all students
Assesses students’ knowledge for the purposes of refining classroom activities and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations and goals
Promotes learning in the areas of social-emotional, language and cognitive development
Exhibits a high level of engagement and enthusiasm
Establishes positive home/school partnership with each family in the classroom
Partners with Lead Teacher in gathering information to share with parents about student performance
Listens and responds to student and parent concerns in a constructive and resourceful manner
Actively supports the school philosophy, community, and policies
Aids in integrating meaningful and appropriate use of technology and STEM activities in the classroom
Performs other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or other related field; Master’s degree preferred
Minimum 2 years of experience teaching elementary students, preferably in an independent school
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child development and educational practices
Strong initiative and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
An ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environment
A sense of humor, warm personality, and growth mindset
