Friends Meeting School is a vibrant, progressive, college preparatory Quaker school serving kindergarten through twelfth grade. We are located in Maryland along the Montgomery/Frederick County boundary-line in a rural and natural setting on 53 rolling acres.
The next Head of School will be a joyful, compassionate, and visionary educator who inspires the school and broader community as a servant-leader using collaboration, empowerment, and accountability in delivering exceptional progressive education to our students. The next Friends Meeting School Head will delight in the opportunity to build upon our considerable strengths to ensure that we are known, recognized, accessible, and celebrated in many different communities.
“A basic tenet of Quakerism is that truth is continuously revealed and is accessible within a community of seekers. At Friends schools, this belief is reflected in an open-minded approach to curriculum and teaching and a developmental approach to children and learning. Students learn to practice truth-seeking and know the various ways this can be accomplished - through inquiry, scientific investigation, reflection, creative expression, critical thinking, dialogue, worship, and service.”
The ideal candidate will be able to:
Build and foster a diverse, caring, and accepting community that continually seeks knowledge, supports learning, acts globally, and commits to an academic environment dedicated to universal Quaker values.
Manage the financial and operational interests of the school (including program, buildings & grounds, farm, etc.) in keeping with the budgetary and strategic goals of the Board.
Develop and nurture a culture of philanthropy among the school community and the broader community that supports the mission of the school and student learning.
Create and implement a broad-based plan to thoughtfully build student enrollment towards optimum capacity.
Direct the delivery of an exceptional program while envisioning and developing innovative methods and models that set the school apart from other institutions.
Explore, develop, and utilize external relationships and partnerships effectively to further the school’s mission.
