Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road (Hardey Preparatory for Boys and Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls are independent, Catholic, single-sex, elementary schools committed to academic excellence within the context of a Christian, faith-based community. The educational mission is deeply rooted in the 200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart and shared with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools located in 30 countries; including 24 schools in the United States and Canada. The essence of this tradition is the total development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical. Our girls and boys are taught in single-sex classrooms but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities. With a total enrollment of approximately 700 students, the Schools are organized into three academic divisions, each led by a division head.
The Library Technology Assistant upholds the mission of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools as expressed in the Goals and Criteria and the mission statement of Sacred Heart Schools, Chicago. The position supports both the technology and library departments as they provide programs that build students’ proficiency in technical, information, and media literacy. This role serves as a helpdesk function for Middle School Chromebook users, supports the library and Library Media Specialist, organizes Audio/Visual equipment setup for the school, and maintains and upgrades technology hardware and software, in partnership with the Technology Department staff.
Essential Job Functions
Support the day-to-day operations of the Library Media Center:
Assist with maintenance of the library collection, including processing, organizing, and categorization of books.
Support Follett Destiny Library Manager system.
Maintain various library databases and periodical subscriptions.
Shelve, organize, and maintain library materials in good order.
Assist during library class time as needed, including providing circulation support, helping students, and assisting the Library Media Specialist with class research and teaching.
Process new books and materials; repair, recondition, or withdraw books and materials as needed.
Assemble and display/arrange resources for library or classrooms, based on season, topics, curriculum, projects, and other events.
Assist in supervising students in the library.
In the absence of the Library Media Specialist, is responsible for the functioning of the library.
Aid in creating an environment that fosters a love of reading.
Fulfill administrative tasks as needed.
Provides technical assistance and support for student user technology hardware, software and network connectivity issues.
Maintains a student help desk for the 1:1 device initiative.
Responds to student end user requests for technical assistance and repairs for Chromebooks and iPads. This may include walking a user through a problem solving process.
Provides one-on-one instruction and answering “how-to” questions on the use of operating system and supported general-use productivity applications i.e., Google Apps, Apple Apps etc.
Works with internal sources for technical assistance related to user problem resolution.
Follows up with student users to ensure issue has been resolved.
Tracks user issues to determine further training needs or device issues.
Provides school wide support for technology set up requests for various school events and operations.
Set up of projectors, laptops, speakers etc for various school events (may require working occasional evening and/or weekend hours.)
Works closely with other members of the Technology team on:
Hardware maintenance, redistribution, replacement and upgrade program.
Supporting e-textbook setup and troubleshooting.
Supporting digital signage systems.
Fulfilling other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Curriculum & Instruction/Director of Technology which are subject to change at any time including to satisfy a reasonable accommodation or for other reasons.
