The Potomac School seeks a Grade 5 Classroom Teacher to fill a full year, long-term leave for the 2019-2020 school year. This role would start in late August 2019 and continue through mid-June 2020. This position reports to the Head of the Middle School.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach the assigned curriculum using different instructional resources, correct assignments, administer tests, observe and evaluate students’ progress.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities by integrating competencies, and goals into the lesson plans.
Keep attendance records; manage student behavior in classroom and maintain a positive educational environment for all students.
Meet with the parents to discuss student progress and problems.
Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and other teacher training workshops.
Ensure the social, emotional and academic (language arts, mathematics, and social studies) growth of a class of children
A minimum of two years’ experience teaching at the Middle School level.
Ability to communicate, motivate and understand the students’ educational and emotional needs.
Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers, support staff, parents and members of the community.
Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and utilize different teaching methods that will result in higher student achievement.
