The Berkeley Carroll is a Pre-K through grade 12 college preparatory school of 980 students located in the Park Slope section of New York City. Berkeley Carroll seeks a full-time bilingual associate teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. Our Spanish program is based on the belief that children learn a language best when they hear and use it in meaningful contexts. In pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, bilingual associate teachers teach Spanish within the classroom.
collaborating with the Spanish coordinator to develop lessons using a communicative-based approach to language instruction
meeting with and planning alongside the head teacher to develop curriculum in all subject areas (language arts, math, reading, and social studies)
planning and teaching lessons in Spanish and English (in both whole and small groups)
facilitating a Responsive Classroom Morning Meeting in Spanish several times a week
preparing classroom materials and performing tasks that are essential for a smoothly functioning classroom; these might include assisting the head teacher in typical classroom “housekeeping” tasks, such as photocopying and creating bulletin boards
supervising “Early Bird” coverage twice a week and taking children to buses at the end of the day
