The Electrician will be responsible for installation, repair and maintenance of electrically powered systems, and equipment including distribution systems and equipment. The electrician is responsible for following accepted procedures and techniques of the electrical trade as well as the NFPA National Electrical Code.
·Repairs and performs preventative maintenance on electrical equipment, distribution system, controls and signal equipment.
·Inspects the work site and determines material and tool requirements, and method of repair.
·Lays out work, assembles equipment, and fabricates distribution runs.
·Transports tools, materials and equipment to the work site.
·Installs new work and completes small remodeling work.
·Inspects the work site and determines material, equipment, and tool requirements and method to be used.
·Plans, lays-out, installs and assembles materials and fixtures as required by scope of work.
·Repairs, maintains and calibrates electrically operated controls and devices, such as communication devices, signal devices, etc.
·Performs related duties as required within classification specifications.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
·Knowledge of electrical principles and NFPA National Electrical Code and their application to the maintenance, repair and installation of electric distribution systems, devices and electrical generation systems.
·Knowledge of the application and use of testing equipment utilized in checking, testing, and analyzing electrical systems such as Volt-Ammeters, Voltage testers, Phase and Rotation testers, Multimeters, etc.
·Knowledge of fabrication and installation of materials and equipment required by electrical distribution systems including special application such as High Hazard areas, Medical applications, etc.
·Ability to apply electrical formulas and conversion tables to job requirements.
·Knowledge of regulatory codes and requirements such as National Electric Code, Applicable Local Codes, NACUBA and BOCA Codes.
·Skill in interpreting schematic drawings, charts and technical instructions.
·Skills normally attributed to a Journeyman Electrician who has completed an apprenticeship or vocational program.
·Must follow uniform policy and wear steel toed work shoes.
·This position is part of the on-call rotation.
·This position is considered essential personnel.
Drills, saws, power tools, hand tools, grinder, threader, plumbing equipment, torch, jack hammer, electrical meters and equipment, ladders, high lift, sewer machine, trucks and scooters.
·Lift, carry or otherwise move up to 50 lbs. regularly.Lift, carry or otherwise move up to 200 lbs occasionally with assistance.
·Follow proper moving and lifting procedures.
·Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear, taste and smell, use fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.Must be able to bend, stoop and lift for long periods of time.
·May be required to climb ladders.
·Must be able to work in steam tunnels and pits in accordance with prescribed safety standards and work practices.
·High School graduate.
·Minimum of three years of experience in the electrical trade in the care and maintenance of similar facilities.
·Must possess good oral and written communication skills and be able to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to express ideas effective and concisely.
·Must be able to read and understand blueprints, structural drawings and schematics.
·Knowledge of safety procedures related to hazardous materials.
·Should be able to prioritize work and work independently without close supervision.
·Must be able to maintain calm composure in stressful situations.
·Must have a valid Driver’s License in order to drive school vehicles.
·Preferred:Attendance at a trade school (Electrical Journeyman’s license) as well as experience with electronic controls, fire alarm systems, and experience with educational campuses.
