Reporting to the Head Librarian, the Library Collaboration Specialist and Test Center Coordinator will assist in carrying out the day-to-day operations of the Shiley Family Library and the Crockett Family Atrium. As the central hub of collaboration and learning within the high school, the library is vital to the continued growth and mission of the school. In alignment with the Oaks Christian Portrait of a Graduate, staff within the library are key participants in the development of knowledge, wisdom, leadership, character, well-being, and community within each Oaks Christian student. Staff within the library provide a culture of care that is a hallmark of Oaks Christian and so conducive to learning and growth.
As an Assistant Librarian, he/she will collaborate with classroom teachers in the development of student literacy through the administration of the library media program, provide specialized instruction to students and teaching staff, and oversee the selection, organization, utilization, and maintenance of library, information, technology and curriculum resources.
A Test Center Coordinator, he/she will manage All-High School Student Testing Program to include coordinating with teachers for student testing requirements, coordinating the use of the library Quiet Study Room for testing and proctoring student testing.
Responsibilities & Technology Proficiency:
Empower students to be discerning researchers; critical thinkers; curious learners; and collaborative innovators
Assist in developing and coordinating a continuing evaluation of the library state-of-the art media program
Collaborate with teachers, department chairs, and administrators in defining the scope and sequence of the information skills curriculum and integrating it into the overall Oaks Christian curriculum
Research current and cutting-edge practices associated with healthy, vibrant, 21st century high school and collegiate libraries while attending workshops and conferences as needed
Help maintain a library culture that is welcoming to students, faculty, staff, parents and visitors; the culture should be vibrant, dynamic, current, and conducive to 21st century learning
Encourage students in the library and atrium to use their time wisely and efficiently; to remain respectful and courteous to other students; and to be involved in academic conversation taking place in and around the library
Assist in instructing students to access and use print and electronic resources with the purpose of effective research and creativity
Assist students with computer and printing needs through instruction of proper use of library equipment
Assist students with proper citation and format documentation in MLA or Chicago Style
Maintain accurate records of book, textbook, periodical, and electronic device circulation
Catalogue and process new and/or donated books and other media
Develop and implement displays and monthly themes to promote use and exposure of various literature genres and resources
Manage All-High School Student Testing Program
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of 21st century library methods and procedures
Knowledge of Word and Google docs/how to convert documents to other formats
Knowledge of current computer software packages including Microsoft Office suite
Knowledge and ability to work with technology devices
Ability to communicate with OCS Tech Support
Ability to operate library equipment properly
Ability communicate effectively and willingness to ask clarifying questions
Ability to create a harmonious work environment and an atmosphere of mutual respect
Ability to work in busy (sometimes loud) environment, with on-going interruptions
Willingness to quiet students, get their attention, make high-volume announcements
Willingness to give and receive feedback
Completion of a B.A or B.S Degree and one (1) year of previous library experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities
Master’s Degree desired (Master of Library Information Science (MLIS) preferred)
Must be willing to work between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:30 pm based on school needs
Must be able to work effectively with high school students
