Summary of Position:
The Executive Director, Enrolment is responsible for creating an innovative student recruiting and retention strategy for day (JK–12) and boarding (8-12) students on a local, national and international level that complements the school’s Vision, Mission and Values and the Strategic Directions of the school. The Executive Director, Enrolment meets regularly with the Head of School, the Senior Leadership Team and other staff as part of the overall strategic visioning for the school.
The Executive Director, Enrolment leads and manages a dynamic team through the student recruitment and enrolment management process to meet the overall enrolment strategy. Thoroughly conversant with and knowledgeable about independent education, the Executive Director, Enrolment has strong people and presentation skills together with a track record of leading and motivating teams.
The Executive Director, Enrolment operates on both a strategic and operational level and is adept with data management and analysis as part of her/his overall technical expertise and is abreast of contemporary research on local, national and international enrolment trends. While possessing a warm and engaging manner, the Executive Director, Enrolment acts as an ambassador for the school, has a passion for student recruiting and retention work and an abiding belief that Girls Can Do Anything.
Specific Accountabilities Include:
Creates an overall visionary and innovative contemporary enrolment strategy, with input from the Senior Leadership Team, that identifies how to attract students that align with our Vision, Mission, Signature of a BSS Girl attributes and our prospective markets, with a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion,
In concert with this enrolment strategy, develop a broad set of approaches to attract a variety of families and prospective students for outreach
Organizes, promotes and administers the school’s Financial Assistance Program to align with the school’s Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions, in conjunction with the Assistant Head, Finance and Facilities and the Head of School; and, working with the Executive Director, Advancement, in a manner that matches the spirit and intentions of any donor funds connected to the Program
Ensures enrolment data management plan is identified, based on the enrolment strategy above, understanding what data should be gathered, reported and analyzed on an on-going basis
Animates and communicates the enrolment strategy to internal departments so they understand and embrace the approach
Works collaboratively with the school Principals with respect to recruitment and retention plans, strategies and decisions, through regular meetings and shared planning
Scrutinizes local, national and international geographical areas as possible new markets to attract high quality students
Identifies strategic opportunities for innovation. This includes analyzing data, research, trends and education disruptions, searching for new opportunities that can potentially build upon the school’s brand
Possesses a deep understanding and commitment to our school approach to learning and can share this effectively and dynamically
Leads, manages, inspires and mentors a flexible team, while working closely with the Dean of Boarding, and the faculty and staff who play an important role in the recruiting process
Manages and oversees all enrolment operations, including demographic and market research, communication plans and delivery, recruitment fairs, interview and selection processes, and data management prior to, during and following the recruitment cycle
Ensures the team regularly communicates and collaborates with departments on the status of student applications
Ensures the team has an exceptional customer service approach to all families
Monitors and measures the effectiveness of the enrolment department, recommends and implements program improvements based on findings
Continually innovates the admission process, including interview and selection procedures and student assessments
Oversees passionate and successful student ambassador and parent volunteer programs to support the goals of the enrolment strategy
Ensures the school’s Vision, Mission and Values are championed in the recruiting messages
Ensures that direct reports regularly complete summative evaluations, recommendations and statistical reports during the recruiting cycle
Implements an effective communication plan with the Enrolment team to ensure parents are informed and engaged in our community
Oversees the creation and updating of all Enrolment related publications and website pages
Liaises with the Communications and Marketing team to clearly identify the exceptional qualities of a BSS education, collectively works to communicate through face-to-face, print, and digital formats to prospective families; and effectively ensures all team members are authentic advocates of the school
Works with the Assistant Head, Finance and Facilities to establish yearly enrolment targets and address student fee-related issues
Liaises closely with the Advancement Department and Student Services as a resource and advisor for Enrolment
Collaborates with Junior/Middle/Senior School Principals and Advancement to ensure supported, comfortable and mindful transitions of families from Recruitment to Enrolment to becoming an active part of the BSS community
Becomes part of the school by actively participating in events, working with teachers to see what works well, and getting to know our students
Values and engages in professional learning personally while encouraging the department to do so as well
Commits to the Staff Growth and Evaluation Process and has the skills and expertise to mentor and inspire others
Models professionalism at all times

Skills, Experience and Attributes Include:
Demonstrated understanding of the enrolment management process and several years’ recruiting experience
Passion for and commitment to girls’ education
Ability to create a strategic plan and communicate it effectively
Strong data management and analytical skills – ability to understand what data needs to be collected and how to analyze data
Demonstrated understanding of diversity and the importance of an inclusive community within a global perspective, including the ability to interact with a wide variety of cultures
Awareness of local, national and international student recruiting practices and the ability to recognize and analyze market trends affecting student recruiting, e.g., economic climate and demographic issues
Proven record of outstanding achievement in a leadership role
Willingness and enthusiasm for purposeful travel overseas
Strong understanding of the processes of teaching and learning within the framework of contemporary skills and technologies
Highly engaging and visible style in dealing with faculty, staff, students, parents and alumnae to ensure outstanding rapport with the community
Evidence of past success in team building and the development of positive and collaborative working relationships
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to encourage others to develop their own capabilities in these areas
Understanding and experience in contemporary inquiry-based learning and a demonstrated commitment to girls’ education and an appreciation for, and understanding of. the developmental needs of girls
Superior organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment
Competence in effective use of technology including databases, e.g., Blackbaud, Education Edge and Excel
