Sheridan is seeking a long-term substitute music teacher for grades K-3 for January-June 2020. The successful candidate will have a thorough background in vocal and instrumental music, experience using a variety of assessment techniques, strong instructional and classroom-management skills, and experience collaborating closely with colleagues and parents. Sheridan’s music program is based on the Orff Schulwerk approach of learning music through joyful, engaging, hands-on participation in creating and performing both vocal and instrumental music. Additional responsibilities include directing the chorus for the spring musical production, weekly music electives classes, and regular communication with parents and colleagues.

Sheridan is an independent, co-educational, K-8 school located in northwest Washington, DC, offering a progressive, concept-based curriculum that promotes social justice and utilizes Reading and Writing Workshop, Math in Focus and Responsive Classroom. Each grade has about 25 students in one homeroom with two teachers. Departmental classes are taught in smaller sections outside of the homeroom by content specialists.
