Basic Function: The Lovett School has a deep commitment to providing a well-rounded experience that includes learning through teamwork, winning, losing and hard work. As a key member of leadership, Lovett’s Athletic Director will be a role model for fostering an overall love of the sport through positive encouragement and support while continually positioning the program for competitive success. The Athletic Director will provide strategic leadership and vision for the following areas: strength and conditioning, training, coaching, sports information and athletic operations. This employment will begin with the 2020-2021 school year.
Oversees and promotes overall success of athletics program
Ensures full alignment of athletics program with Lovett’s mission and vision
Exhibits and communicates to others a strong personal commitment to the importance of honesty, respect, responsibility, compassion, courage, and integrity
Stays abreast of innovations in sports science and nutrition to ensure program stays current in advancing student health and wellness, safety, and achievement
Demonstrates commitment to the school’s teacher-coach philosophy, maintains overall athletics department/coaching philosophy, and develops associated athletics policies and procedures
Works to promote high standards of program competitiveness and accountability
Stewards relationships and communicates effectively
Maintains positive and supportive relationships with the school’s students, parents, coaching staff, and alumni as well as various internal and external constituencies including Georgia High School Sports Association (GHSA)
Ensures information regarding Lovett’s athletics program is actively and accurately conveyed to the press and other external groups, effectively using appropriate technology and social media
Proactively markets the quality of the Lovett athletics program to internal and external audiences including appropriate, proactive retention efforts for all current students
Actively partners with coaches and College Counseling to support student-athletes who intend to participate in athletics at the college level
Serves as the chief resource to LionBackers parent group
Leads and manages athletics staff
Builds, maintains, and supervises an effective and collaborative team of athletic administrators, trainers, and coaches
Participates in hiring of all athletics-oriented staff, including all teacher-coaches
Ensures appropriate staffing of all coaching roles throughout the school
Provides appropriate orientation to all new coaches
Provides continual professional development for all staff
Oversees budgeting and athletics facilities
In conjunction with Chief Operations Officer and Plant Operations, ensures safe usage, care, and condition of all equipment, facilities, and fields
Ensures appropriate budgeting for athletics-related capital expenditures in conjunction with CFO
Manages athletics related logistics
Oversees the scheduling of all athletic events and works with staff to own overall athletic event management, including transportation, hiring officials, parking, fielding logistical questions, crowd control, etc.
Position Requirements (knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform satisfactorily in the position):

A minimum of 7-10 years of with considerable athletic management experience, preferably in an independent school or college setting
Superior listening skills and the ability to understand and respond appropriately to the multiple perspectives represented in the school community
Is approachable and present for students, coaches, and parents. Fosters love for sports through positive encouragement and support
Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, board members, and external entities
A collaborative, yet clear and decisive leadership style, built on a foundation of servant leadership
The ability to build and lead effective teams, empowering others through delegation, valuing the contributions of all team members, and cultivating the talents and strengths of each individual for the success of the team
Strong technology skills and computer literacy
A bachelor’s degree is required, an advanced degree is strongly preferred
