About our school: Bay Ridge Prep is a NYSAIS-accredited, co-ed, K-12 independent school dedicated to enriching the intellectual curiosity, creativity, and emotional intelligence of each person. The school currently enrolls 400 students in two buildings in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and will soon relaunch a $5 million capital campaign to support the construction of a new Upper School building.
About the position: The Director of Development is a member of the school’s administrative leadership team and reports to the Head of School. This one-person department shares administrative support with other directors and is perfect for a candidate who is looking to energize, rethink and lead donor relations and cultivation at a small school in the New York City market. The position is responsible for overseeing the school’s development program which includes:
Prospect research and briefings for an ongoing capital campaign
Managing and increasing an annual fund and a spring fun run that both raise a combined $150,000 - $200,000
Grant research, applications and proposals
Donor portfolio and records management
The position collaborates, as needed, with the Communications Director, Admissions Director and other administrators to assist in school marketing, prospective and new family events, retention efforts and alumni programming and communication. The position also works with the Business Office to ensure all gifts, pledges and grants received are accounted for pursuant to non-profit financial regulations. The Director of Development is expected to continuously benchmark and report to the Head of School the progress and outcomes of development programs.
Bachelor’s degree and related professional experience in non-profit fundraising; previous experience in independent schools is strongly preferred
Proficiency in development database and school database software, email communication software, Google Apps Suite, and Microsoft Office
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Strong collaborative working skills with fellow colleagues
Positive attitude and passionate about the school’s mission and vision
Medical, Dental and Vision insurance coverage paid for by the school with additional coverage provided for spouses and dependents of directors
403B Retirement Plan with an annual contribution by the school equal to 3% of salary plus a matching contribution equal up to an additional 4% of salary based on the employee’s contribution
21 days of paid vacation during July and August plus some paid time off during school breaks
Partial reimbursement via insurance plan for gym, fitness club/class membership (subject to the policies of and review by school insurance provider)
