The Kentucky Country Day (KCD) middle school director reports to the head of school and serves as an integral member of the head of school’s senior administration team. The middle school division director is charged with the comprehensive responsibility for all activities involving students and faculty in grades 5-8.
The ideal candidate would have previous middle school leadership experience, middle school classroom teaching experience, and a minimum of a master’s degree. The candidate would have a strong background in best practices in teaching and learning that foster the development of students’ 21st century skills, as well as experience working with multiple school constituencies in a diverse community. The candidate would have the ability to balance the big picture of school life with the details of managing the daily life of school and the individual needs of members of our community. The candidate needs to be a good listener who fosters collegiality among the middle school faculty. The personal qualities of approachability, flexibility, and patience are also desirable for this position.
Areas of responsibility include the following:
To oversee a mission-driven program and curriculum that meets the unique needs of middle school students, their parents, and faculty
To participate in the hiring, evaluation, and retention of faculty
To prepare the class schedule for teachers and students
To oversee the development of and adherence to school policies and to maintain student discipline processes in congruence with school policies
To create and nurture a culture of collegiality, respect, and support that provides a positive environment for all constituents.
