Friends Community School (FCS) in College Park, MD, seeks a Part-time Lower School Spanish Teacher (Kindergarten-Grade 4).

The Lower School Spanish Teacher is responsible for teaching 16 Spanish classes each week. A successful candidate will engage students and inspire them to become global citizens and active members of their local communities, linguistically and culturally. The Lower School Spanish teacher will impart knowledge and develop skills of elementary-age students that are relevant to the acquisition of the Spanish language.
Duties include the following:
Plan and execute lessons that are developmentally appropriate and recognize students’ learning styles.
Cultivate a classroom that is respectful, safe, and conducive to learning.
Incorporate music and art into lessons and activities.
Assess and monitor students’ academic and social-emotional growth.
Write comments for students’ progress reports.
Utilize Rubicon Atlas to document lessons, assessments, and scope and sequence of classes.
Required skills and experience:
Bachelor's degree in education or Spanish. Advanced degree preferred but not required.
Fluent speaker, reader, and writer in Spanish.
At least three years of classroom teaching experience.
Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with children and adults.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Collaborates well with colleagues of diverse backgrounds on pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment, and instructional strategies.
Encourages collaborative teamwork in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully.
Invests in the life of the school by participating in the weekly Meeting for Worship and faculty meetings and professional development.
Demonstrated professional behavior, including discretion, judgment, and integrity.
