Pan-American School is looking for a new Primary School Principal to lead the first PYP authorized school in Costa Rica from July 2020. The ideal candidate for this leadership opportunity will be a dynamic, innovative, forward-thinking, organized, collaborative and passionate educator, a creative problem solver, and an instructional leader with a focus on addressing the social, emotional and academic needs of students.
The next Primary School Principal at Pan-American School will naturally encounter a blend of opportunities and challenges. Moving forward, the successful candidate will:
Cultivate and lead a committed, collaborative, and student-centered faculty.
Redevelop the current progressional growth and development model to place a strong emphasis on evidence-informed growth and professional learning
Ensure that the Primary School continues to support and celebrate student development and growth appropriate to this division, while effectively preparing students for the transition into Middle School and further success beyond.
Ensure the successful implementation of the PYP’s inquiry-based approach to student learning, and ensuring that approaches to teaching and learning - including such areas as student agency, differentiated instruction, data- and evidence- informed strategies, grading and assessment - are effectively embedded across the division.
Ensure that the educational program effectively caters to the different needs of all learners at the school.
Ensure that PAS continues to develop and be recognized as an excellent place to work and learn in Costa Rica and across Central America.
Expand on the work of the learner and language support team to ensure that effective strategies are implemented in all classrooms to respond to the evolving needs of a diverse student body.
Support the diverse professional learning needs of faculty and staff by identifying and nurturing strong practice within the current faculty, and building further capacity through a variety of strategies and approaches.
Identify and integrate the strengths that each element of the community brings: local faculty, foreign hires, Spanish language and English language teachers etc.
Work alongside members of the school leadership team to finalize and implement an iterative strategic plan.
Continue to advocate for the Primary School in the overall structure and operation of the school.

The ideal candidate will have most of the following qualifications:
Minimum of a Master’s degree in Educational Administration/ Leadership, Curriculum/Instruction, or a related field.
Five years minimum of educational leadership experience, preferably in a PYP school.
Demonstrated commitment to current best practices in teaching and learning in inquiry-based contexts.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively in written and oral forms.
Full command of oral and written English and an advanced level of oral and written Spanish.
Current understanding of assessment for/of/as learning and PYP grading and reporting.
Ability to sensitively lead and manage change.
Experience with school budget management.
Experience with learner support, language support and SEL programs.
A people-first approach to leadership with the ability to build and develop teams and encourage and mentor others.
International experience, preferably in bilingual and bicultural programs.
Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
