The Palm Valley School is located in Rancho Mirage, CA, in the heart of the beautiful Coachella Valley. We are a college-preparatory school that serves around 350 students in Preschool (infants) through Grade 12. The Palm Valley School is the only CAIS/NAIS Independent School in the Coachella Valley. Professional Qualifications The interim head of school should possess excellent professional experience and credentials that include the following: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Broad understanding of child development from preschool through adolescents and young adults. Varied experiences teaching and leading in independent schools. Understanding of independent school culture and process. Knowledgeable about best practices in educational technology, and relevant technology trends in schools. Successful record of administrative and teaching experience in independent schools and/or other organizations Strong financial acumen and knowledge of business operations and financial models in independent schools, and ability/willingness to oversee enrollment management of school A willingness to fully embrace and oversee fund-raising and donor cultivation, experience preferred. Broad knowledgeable about curriculum implementation and design, professional development opportunities, and best practices in teaching and learning.
Personal Qualities The interim head of school should possess the following personal qualities: Visionary leadership Charisma, confidence, and a warm presence Ability to listen deeply, build consensus when needed, and make difficult decisions in the best interest of the school Honest and trustworthy Ability to manage complexity amongst varied constituencies and to build community relationships amongst them Respectful of the past, but able to envision and implement possibilities for the future Strong work ethic; energetic and enthusiastic in day to day approach. Excellent ability to communicate clearly through speaking and writing Able to take an open-minded approach to problem solving, and have adept facility in critical thinking. Value and seek efficiency; willing and able to lead a school with a very lean administrative staff
