BB&N is seeking a Student Support and Health Services Assistant. The health services assistant supports the BB&N Student Health Services program as determined by the Director of Student Support Services and the Lead Nurse. The scope of responsibilities will vary according to Student Health Services needs, the capabilities of the Health Services Assistant, and the availability of the school nurse to provide direct supervision. When the school nurse determines that certain tasks may be delegated to the Health Services Assistant, such delegation shall be under the supervision of the school nurse and consistent with the Board of Registration in Nursing Regulations (244 CMR 3.05). This is a part-time position working 10-12 hours per week. Actual hours are flexible and can be determined with the Director.
Performing Clerical Functions:
records health information (e.g., results of various screening tests, immunization information,);
maintains an up-to-date master file (e.g., student health emergency information);
sends notices to parents, tabulates returns, and follows up on non-respondents;
provides ongoing communication to the school nurse regarding the status of health notices;
distributes information (e.g., forms) to teachers and administrative staff; and
develops computer skills as needed.
Assisting in Health Care Activities:
assists with preparation for health activities (e.g., physical examination of students, immunizations)
provides first aid care to students with minor injuries
reports all illnesses/injuries to the school nurse for professional review, care and/or follow-up
contacts parents of ill or injured children
The ideal candidate will have current certification in both cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and basic first aid. A high-school diploma or its equivalent is required.
The Student Support and Health Services Assistant will demonstrate the following:
