Job Title: Middle School English Teacher - Leave Replacement
Division: Middle School
Reports to: Head of Middle School and Chair of the English Department
The Middle School English Department at King seeks a full-time, long-term leave replacement for the 2019-2020 year, March through June. This teacher will assume duties and responsibilities, consistent with expectations for all Middle School teachers, which consists of the primary teaching load of four sections and one activity.
Teach 4 sections of 7th Grade English.
Serve as a 7th Grade Advisor.
Participate in all required meetings.
Perform other supervisory duties as required of all Middle School teachers - recess and snack, lunch, study hall, morning greeting, etc.
Communicate with parents/guardians about student and advisee progress as necessary.
Skills and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (in English preferred).
1 to 3 years of head classroom teaching experience (preferred).
Possess a sound understanding of the developmental stages of middle school students.
Develop a unit of study that spans several weeks, culminating in a meaningful assessment.
Ability and willingness to facilitate differentiated, student-centered best practices.
Possess an understanding of literary analysis, writing workshop, and grammar instruction.
Ability and willingness to encourage student discovery and autonomy of thought.
The candidate should be organized and able to manage a series of student information platforms and systems, including: Google Classroom, Gmail.
