The Potomac School is seeking a part-time Kindergarten Assistant Teacher for the 2019-20 school year. The Kindergarten Assistant works closely with the kindergarten classroom teacher to plan and implement instruction to support the social, emotional and academic growth of kindergarten students. The ability to appreciate and work effectively across individual and cultural differences is essential.
The Kindergarten Assistant works every day (Monday-Friday) from 7:45 am until noon and reports to the Head of the Lower School.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to prepare lesson plans following curriculum guidelines and requirements.
Help prepare instructional materials and implement lessons in the classroom
Support classroom guidelines and procedures to ensure a positive learning environment for all students
Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops.
Is dependable, patient and organized
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
A minimum of one year of experience in an early childhood classroom
Strong knowledge and understanding of the developmental characteristics of young children
Ability to communicate, motivate and understand the students’ educational and emotional needs
Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers, support staff, parents and members of the community
