In an effort to expand our Inclusive Learning Support Services at Dwight, the Accelerated Learning Coordinator will provide services to students, teachers, administrators, and parents in order to meet identified students’ needs from Grades PK -8. This position reports to the Head of School and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) Division Heads.
The position requires the development, identification, programming and evaluation of high ability students in the five areas of intellectual, specific academic subjects, creativity, the arts, and leadership. Working in collaboration with administrators and teachers, the coordinator will provide supplemental support for increasing advanced student achievement for all students and specifically those identified as accelerated learners. Through faculty mentoring and development, instructional planning, and classroom support for teachers (using both pull-out and push-in programming) the coordinator will ensure that identified learners will have the opportunity to accelerate their unique sparks of genius.
At least 8-10 years of teaching experience from across the PK-Grade 8 spectrum
Experience in teaching, analyzing and challenging high ability students
Proven experience, understanding and ability to apply instructional strategies on differentiation
Broad knowledge of elementary and middle school education goals and objectives
Ability to conduct staff development, mentoring and leadership in the areas of accelerated learning techniques, programming and differentiated learning
Strong academic background, particularly in mathematics, language arts, and writing
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to interact with parents, teachers, students
Ability to interpret data and use that data to support accelerated and inclusive learning
Knowledge of IB curriculum and instruction would be preferred
Master’s Degree in Curriculum Design, Gifted and Talented Learning or Differentiated Instruction would be preferred
Coordinate the process to identify accelerated students at Dwight, including review of student data and assessment of students
Assist teachers to develop and provide accelerated learners with alternative course work through curriculum modification, mentoring, intern experiences, etc.
Develop and monitor differentiated educational goals with curriculum coordinators and the SLT
Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers and other relevant individuals regarding accelerated learners
Plan and conduct parent, teacher and student meetings when appropriate
Prepare and model lessons/unit plans that reflect accommodation for individual student differences
Work cooperatively with Quest teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to Individual Education Plans (IEP)
Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal assessment..
Staff Development: take lead in professional development of faculty with regard to accelerated and inclusive learning
