Perelman Jewish Day School is a K-5 Hebrew day school in Elkins Park, a northern suburb of Philadelphia. We are seeking an innovative educator who is passionate about nurturing children’s innate curiosity and creativity while developing dispositions that hinge on problem-solving and grit. This full-time position requires content expertise in elementary science, the maker movement and coding. The position begins in December 2019 or January 2020.
The science program utilizes a well-articulated curriculum grounded in the Next Generation Science Standards. Every grade explores Physical, Life, and Earth Science through hands-on experiences, collaborative discussion, and observation. The science teacher works in a fully equipped laboratory and is responsible for the ordering, inventory and use of its materials. The teacher is also responsible for collaborative special program development.
The makerspace and coding curricula are equally responsive to General Studies and Jewish studies content as well as to a scoped coding and skill-driven curriculum. The teacher collaborates with administrators and faculty to integrate classroom curricula into the makerspace and create maker and coding opportunities for the school community at large. The teacher maintains the makerspace, including inventory and equipment upkeep as well as identify tools for innovation, design and making.

Minimum qualifications include:
An undergraduate degree in a STEAM-related field
3 years teaching experience
Demonstrated ability to teach integrated science and STEM content across K-5
Coding experience with Blockly, Scratch Jr. and Scratch
Experience with 3D printing and basic circuitry
Experience with block-based robotics
Comfort with cloud-based tools for productivity, collaboration, planning and record keeping
Highly qualified candidates will include:
Graduate degree in STEAM-related field
Interest/ability in physical computing, including Arduino and Raspberry Pi
Experience with laser cutting
