Belmont Day School seeks an experienced HR professional to join its business team for this year-round position. The business team supports the human resources, payroll, and benefits needs for the school’s employees. The human resources manager will work closely with the business manager, director of finance, and head of school in all personnel matters, guiding and managing the overall provision of HR services, policies, employee engagement and related programs for the school.
The Human Resources Manager is an 80% FTE position (32 hours per week) and is eligible for benefits in accordance with the school’s benefits policies. The position reports to the director of finance.
Oversee and administer benefits program, including enrollments, vendor relations, bid processes, employee communication and education, filings with unemployment and worker’s compensation
Perform HR and payroll database system maintenance and improvements, on-boarding new employees, maintain personnel and payroll records, review payroll processing
Maintain job descriptions and policies and procedures contained in the employee handbook
Advise supervisors on compliance with applicable policies
Supervise all required background checks conducted by the school including the function of Local Agency Security Officer (LASO) in overseeing Criminal Offender Background Checks (CORI), Sexual Offender Background Checks (SORI) and other required background checks
Ensure compliance for COBRA, FMLA, ADA, ACA, paid time off, and other regulatory compliance requirements
Coordinate recruitment efforts and hiring process for all vacancies including strategies for developing and maintaining a diverse workforce
Keep abreast of new federal and state legislation and regulations to ensure school compliance and assist director of finance with compliance with federal and state requirements
Respond to employee issues and conflict resolution matters
Perform additional responsibilities as required

The Human Resources Manager should be a well-rounded HR professional with a wide array of experiences in the field, including, but not limited to:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development or equivalent
Five to seven years of progressive experience in HR related positions
Educational/academic setting experience preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
Strong knowledge of HR areas including recruitment, employee engagement, compensation and benefits, policies and procedures, on-boarding, performance management, and training
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Detail oriented with exceptional organizational skills
Proficiency with technology
Experience with cloud-based HR software, especially ADP Workforce Now
Ongoing attendance at professional development workshops
